A few days later, he receives your newsletter, clicks a link inside and registers as a user. He likes the web app, play with it for a few days, but really he is a mobile-first guy. He’ll just open his Playstore and download your app, login and start using it. He’ll become a paid subscriber through the app a month later.

The example above is a user journey. With advanced data analytics, you can collect this entire journey from end to end and identify the user by matching the data from every platform. You will know that the same user Clicked an Ad, Subscribed to the Newsletter, Clicked an email link, Registered to the Webapp, Downloaded the App, Subscribed through the app. All this data will be linked together in the database thanks to key identifiers. This kind of data is invaluable, you can use it to correlate multiple actions. Once you discover that X and impact on Revenue, you’ll put more efforts in X and therefore increase revenue.

Once you get the data, you can start to put your heads on or hire someone to find patterns and use these patterns to decide how to split the efforts.

The second great thing you’ll be able to do with the new segmented user base, is to be able to use this segments for any marketing purposes and bucket users on-the-fly. This is also invaluable in order to operate marketing automation on steroids.
